SILCHAR, May 17 Police had to fire tear gas shell to quell a mob of irate students of Siddheswar Higher Secondary School who ransacked the Circle Officers establishment today morning following a 44-year-old subject teacher of the school named Rupak Dey committing suicide in the wee hours of Saturday at his residence at Katigorah Part-III.

The deceased, it may be mentioned, was the census supervisor of Katigorah. He was reportedly insulted by Circle Officer Debasish Baishya recently over census-related responsibilities. Family sources informed that Dey had been suffering from depression since that incident.

Demanding justice, the students subsequently submitted a memorandum of magistrate Rana Bora. In the meantime, Deputy Commissioner HK Dev Mahanta and Superintendent of Police PK Bhuyan rushed to the spot to defuse the tense situation.

The deceased did not leave any suicide note though he hanged himself from the ceiling fan of his bedroom. Magistrate Rana Bora visited the spot and sent the body to Silchar Medical College Hospital for post mortem.
