Students prepare organic medicine to kill rice pests

BOKAKHAT, Sept 30 - Three students of Numaligarh High School � Manashi Kachari (Class VII), Jopika Hazarika (Class VII) and Khushi Gupta (Class VIII) after a research have prepared an organic paste to kill the swarming caterpillars which are damaging paddy crops across Assam. The three students with the advice of their teachers, Mousumi Gogoi and Rajiv Das, prepared a paste with medicinal herbs like neem leaf, wild betel leaf, custard apple leaf, garlic, bihlongoni (a kind of fern), chilli and tobacco.

The students also experimentally proved that all insects that are injurious to crops, including the swarming caterpillar can be killed easily using this organic medicine.

Meanwhile, the Golaghat district unit of the National Children Science Congress has nominated and sent this achievement to the State-level exhibition.
