Students lock CTPS over waste treatment plant

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Nov 1 - The Chandrapur Anchalik Students Union (CASU) today locked the Chandrapur Thermal Power Station protesting the proposal to set up a waste-to-energy converter plant on its premises.

Scores of activists shouted slogans at the gate of the plant.

Police personnel, the Circle Officer and officials from APDCL later convinced the agitators to withdraw the agitation around noon.

The officials assured the student body that a meeting would be convened with APDCL on November 6 where they can air their grievances.

On Thursday, the CASU had sent a memorandum to the State Chief Secretary alleging that the decision to set up the plant was totally anti-people, and it will affect the environment of the area.
