Students� Chapter of Indian Green Building Council

GUWAHATI, Aug 22 - IIT Guwahati launched the Students� Chapter of the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) at a formal function recently.

Prof Gautam Biswas, Director of IIT Guwahati, inaugurated the chapter, said a statement issued today. The event was attended by PK Sharma, co-chairman of IGBC Guwahati Chapter and president of AREIDA.

Addressing the event, Prof Biswas highlighted the importance of addressing the growing ecological issues and concerns with emphasis upon energy and water management.

He further added that the need of the hour is to focus on improving potable water availability and waste water disposal. He said enhancement in the water supply infrastructure and sewerage monitoring, treatment and disposal systems is an urgent need and this will be feasible only when green infrastructure is targeted in a holistic framework.

Sharma, in his speech, said that the Student Chapter launch is the first key initiative of IGBC Guwahati Chapter. He added that IGBC Students� Chapter aims to encourage young minds to make green a way of life and also facilitate them in becoming green ambassadors of the country.
