Student leaders join BJP

UDALGURI, Sept 22 - Prominent ex-student leaders of the All Bodo Students� Union (ABSU) and the Bodoland Students� Union (BSU), along with more than 150 activists from different walks of life ceremoniously joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today here at Udalguri town amid a huge congregation in the presence of sitting MP of Mangaldoi HPC Dilip Saikia.

A party-level meeting to this effect was chaired by Kartik Chandra Boro, president of the Udalguri district committee of BJP which was anchored by Ajoy Hazarika, general secretary of the district committee of the party.

Joining the BJP, Rinjoy Boro, ex-secretary of ABSU said that BJP would clinch all the elections including the forthcoming BTC elections to be held in 2020. He hoped that the BTC region would get a new changed look under the BJP. On the other hand, Dilip Saikia, MP of Mangaldoi HPC informed that the party has already registered above 90,000 members in Udalguri during the recent drives.

Gorkha bodies decry NRC anomalies: The Gorkha organisations of Udalguri district, Udalguri Gorkha Students� Union and Udalguri district Gorkha Sammelan on Saturday demonstrated at the premises of the Deputy Commissioner�s office here at Udalguri demanding the inclusion of all left-out Gorkha people from the NRC. The three-hour-long sit-in demonstration with banners and placards showing their points of demands was attended by nearly 2000 AAGSU activists, Gorkha Sammelan members and general public hailing from different parts of the district. Later, the leaders submitted a two-page memorandum to the Chief Minister of Assam, copies of which were also sent to the Union Home Minister and the Governor of Assam.
