BONGAIGAON, June 23 - A Class X student of Tukrajhar Higher Secondary School in Chirang district, identified as Subungsat Narzary, allegedly hanged himself at his residence at Salbari forest village in the district on Tuesday afternoon for not having an android cellphone to attempt online school exam.
He left a suicide note on his study table and a similar message at his non-android cellphone before ending his life, family members said.
The suicide note scripted in Bodo language read that due to not having an android cellphone he could not write his exam, which was conducted online.
Jaypal Singh Brahma, Inspector of Schools in charge in the district, said that the online exam was not mandatory for all students. It was for them who had android cellphones and those who have no such cellphones were asked to submit home assignment as an alternative option.
