GORESWAR, Oct 24 - With a view to create a healthy society and in order to generate awareness against anti-social activities, several student bodies, including All Bodo Students Union ( ABSU), All Assam Saraniya Kachari Students Union, (AASKSU), Assam Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), All Koch Rajbongshi Students Union (AKRSU), All Assam Gariya Mariya Desi Jatiya Parisad (AAGMDJP), All Assam Kalita Janagosthi Students Union (AAKJSU) and All BTC Minority Students Union (ABMSU) have launched a poster campaign against rising cases of illicit liquor consumption and gambling in and around Goreswar in Baksa district. Earlier, the student bodies of Goreswar Anchalik committees also submitted a memorandum to the district administration to stop such anti-social activities.

The members of the organisations appealed to the people to keep a vigil in their respective areas in order to curb such activities.

It may be mentioned here that Goreswar has become a safe haven for gamblers. A section of youths are involving themselves in teer and illegal lotteries at Maharipara, Naokata, Kerpavitha, Suagpur and Bangalipara, which has become a matter of concern.

Sources said that students, teachers, government employees, farmers, small businessmen and unemployed youths are regularly playing teer. The district administration should handle the situation seriously as anti-social activities are increasing in various parts of the district, a section of senior citizens told this correspondent.

What is unfortunate is that even small shops are now selling liquor despite strict orders from the administration, they claimed.

The members of student organisations urged the senior citizens to cooperate with them in their mission to free Goreswar from anti-social activities. The public of Goreswar have praised the student organisations for their campaign against such anti-social activities.
