IMPHAL, April 19 The 48-hour general strike called by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) against the killing of driver S Babu and a 24 hour Chakka bandh imposed by the Drivers Union hit normal life in Manipur today. The strikes were called in protest against the killing of driver Babu of Samurou Awang Leikai by suspected hill-based militants in Senapati district on April 17.

The strike will end on April 20 midnight while the Chakka Bandh will conclude at 12 pm on April 19. Though the strike was partial in Imphal town, vehicular movement on almost all roads to Imphal remained suspended. However, air traffic at Tulihal airport in Imphal was normal. Some goods-laden trucks coming to Imphal were reportedly damaged at Maram under Senapati district.
