Strike cripples normal life in Tripura

By Correspondent

AGARTALA, June 28 Normal life came to a standstill across Tripura on Monday following a dawn-to-dusk strike called by the ruling Left Front here. No untoward incident was reported during the bandh so far, police said.

While shutters of shops and markets were down, vehicles were off the road pushing normal life out of gear. No vehicle was found moving on the Assam-Agartala National Highway (NH-44) barring cars meant for ferrying wedding parties.

The presence of employees in government offices including Civil Secretariat was very thin even after governments notification opposing the general strike. All the educational institutions including Tripura University, National Institute of Technology (NIT), Agartala and Tripura Institute of Technology (TIT) remained closed.

No picketer has so far been arrested. Tight security arrangement was made to avoid any kind of untoward incident during the bandh. The bandh had been called in protest against the recent abrupt hike in fuel prices.
