Strict facility quarantine for people returning on trains

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, May 12: Asserting that the State was entering a decisive phase in the war against COVID19 as the train services resume, health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today said all those who return from red zones will be put under strict facility quarantine as it would not be possible to test the samples of each and every one.

The first train from Delhi carrying 1,122 passengers will reach Assam tomorrow.

According to the health minister, majority of the passengers of the first train 842 will disembark in Dibrugarh and half of them are from Arunachal and they will be provided buses by the neighbouring state.

It is not possible to test the samples of all. The Central government has also said tests should be conducted on only symptomatic people. The others will be put under strict facility quarantine by the DCs of the host districts, Sarma said, insisting that if the government cannot test person, it can also not allow the returnee to mingle with the society.

The quarantine facilities are being set up at schools, colleges and other such buildings and the minister admitted that their quality might not be at par with the standards of a middle class family.
