Stress on yoga to fight COVID-19

By The Assam Tribune

GUWAHATI, July 17 - An international webinar on the theme COVID-19 and Society: Some Issues and Perspectives was organised by the Department of English, Narangi Anchalik Mahavidyalaya in collaboration with the colleges IQAC on Thursday, said a press release issued here today.

One of the resource persons Professor Carolyn Heising, Professor Emeritus Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering, IOWA State University, USA and co-founder, Universal Peace Institute, Vista, California, said that in the current Covid-19 situation the western model has collapsed, with the United States and Italy suffering the most. As such, she emphasised that people should follow yoga, meditation and ayurveda.

Another resource person Dr Ram Sharma, Associate Professor and Head, Department of English at JVPG College, UP, emphasised that it was time to return to the ancient Vedic customs, that is, to respect Nature and not just to exploit Nature. He laid emphasis on worshipping trees, mountains and all other living beings. He said this could have some relation with the reason why animals are not affected by Covid-19. He further said that under the present circumstances people should repose faith not in vaccines or drugs but in Mother Nature and in drastic changes in their way of thinking, eating and living style. A question-answer session held on the occasion was conducted by Ruplekha Phukan Barthakur, Assistant Professor of the host department and staff coordinator of the webinar, the release added.
