Stress on therapeutic values of yoga

GUWAHATI, June 20 - On the eve of International Yoga Day, Dr BR Baishya, who had presented a number of scientific research papers on yoga and skin-related diseases at several international conferences, said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi�s aim to ensure mass participation is gaining momentum and it is time now to lay stress on the therapeutic value of yoga and apply it for the benefit of the common man.

�Yoga�s use in prevention and treatment of ailments has to be tapped to the fullest for the welfare of the common man,� said Dr Baishya, who was also instrumental in introducing yoga for Assam Police personnel and their families for the first time in 2000 on the Assam Police Special Branch premises at Kahilipara.

Meanwhile, along with the rest of the country, Vivekananda Kendra Guwahati will observe International Yoga Day tomorrow. The yoga session will start at its usual time around 5.30 am, where participants from various walks of life will practice yoga.

Our Jalukbari correspondent adds: The Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) has been designated as the nodal force for participation of Central Armed Police Forces in the International Yoga Day function in Guwahati in coordination with the State administration.

A contingent comprising 350 personnel from SSB, 225 each from BSF and CRPF, 100 from ITBP and 50 each from RPF and CISF will take part in the International Yoga Day event tomorrow.

The National Service Scheme, B Borooah College unit will also observe the day in a befitting manner.
