By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, June 3 - In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modis Skill India initiative, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today announced formation of a Skill Development Department in the State.

The idea, according to the Chief Minister, is to enhance employability level of youths across the State which will go a long way in ensuring the inclusive growth of all sections of people.

As youths in India are considered as the driving force of development, the department will empower them in a big way. From tea gardens to char areas, the employability skills of youths from every nook and corner of the State will be harnessed, he said.

The State Government is committed to catapult Assam as one of the top States in the country.

Sonowal also affirmed the Governments commitment to work towards keeping intact the harmonious diverse social fabric of the State.

Replying to a debate on the motion of thanks on the Governors address in the State Assembly this afternoon, Sonowal said that the Government was committed to live up to the expectations of the new generation.

Underscoring the diverse nature of the State with numerous tribes and communities, Sonowal said it was on top of the Governments agenda to maintain this secular fabric and the composite structure of the Assamese society.

In order to achieve

sustainable development, we will have to take each constituent of the society on board. There must be no fear or apprehension in the mind of any section of people and we will ensure that everyone enjoys equal dignity, he added.

Pointed out that the State has a number of perennial issues ranging from flood to foreigners issue, Sonowal said the Government would leave no stone unturned to address these issues.

It is through a united stand that we can make the State free from foreigners, he asserted.

He maintained that the States financial condition was in a shambles and said, The entire system has to be revisited. We have to take steps to strengthen our financial condition.

He also sought the cooperation of the Opposition for the States development and said the Government will accept constructive suggestions of the Opposition.

Earlier, initiating the debate on the Motion of Thanks on the Governors address, BJP chief whip Hitendra Nath Goswami said that the Treasury benches will need the cooperation of the Opposition.

He said the Governors speech has laid a roadmap for the State and it has touched on the five basic needs of safe drinking water, healthcare, roads and bridges, power and agriculture.

He said the new Assembly has a huge number of young members and called for patience, tolerance and mutual respect.

Congress MLA Ajanta Neog said that the Opposition will offer constructive support to the Government on issues of public importance. She added that for long-term development of the State, the government will have to fix the finances. She added that despite facing lots of problems the previous regime was able to achieve a lot during its 15 years in office.

AIUDF MLA Hafiz Bashir Ahmed Kasimi said that the Government should take all the communities along for all-round development of the State.

There are so many communities in Assam. All are not equally advanced socially, economically or politically. There must be specific plan for development of each community, he said.
