Stress on resource-based sectors

GUWAHATI, Feb 8 � Giriraj Singh, Union Minister of State, MSME, today inaugurated the new Corporate Social Responsibility Centre � �The CSR Hub� � at the Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE) at Lalmati here.

This is the only dedicated centre for CSR in the region, and will cater to all CSR activities of corporate organisations and other establishments.

While interacting with the officials of IIE, Singh appreciated the effort made by the IIE in the arena of imparting quality training, implementing area approach programmes and in promoting entrepreneurship among the youths of the entire north-eastern region. He laid emphasis on development of resource-based sectors like food processing, sericulture and handloom and handicraft of the region where IIE can play a catalytic role in channelising products in the national and international markets.

Manoj Kumar Das, Director IIE, while highlighting the future roadmap of the institute, reiterated that the institute would become a coordination centre for all the promotional and support institutes of the north-eastern region through a proposed Investor Club and Entrepreneurial Haat.

He also stressed the need for taking up innovative programmes like one-village-one-product model in the region for promoting rural entrepreneurship. He added that the corporate sector of the region could now access IIE�s CSR Hub for their corporate social work.

Dr Sriparna B Baruah, Head CSLP, IIE, mentioned that the institute had signed an MoU with the Oil India Limited for their CSR project, and working with OIL for the past one year in several areas of entrepreneurship and skill-based training, and solar solution besides taking up livelihood cluster projects for OIL very soon.

Under CSR activities of the India Infrastructure Finance Corporation Limited (IIFCL), IIE has tied up with National Schedule Tribe Finance Development Corporation (NSTFDC) to take up one handloom project for each of the eight states of the North-east.
