Stress on popularisation of science

JALUKBARI, Dec 15 - A biennial general meeting of the Assam Science Congress Association (ASCA) was held at the Gauhati University on December 12 with its president Rekha Phukan in the chair.

ASCA general secretary Nripen Saikia read out the biennial report of the association at the meeting , which was attended by a large number of representatives from different parts of Assam.

A new central executive committee of ASCA was formed for the session 2015-17 with Prof Hari Prasad Sarma as president, Nripen Saikia as working president, Dr Ranjan Kr Kakati, Mizo Prava Bora and Dr Prabal Saikia as vice presidents, Kishor Kr Saikia as general secretary and Dhrubajyoti Kalita as treasurer.

The representatives present at the meeting exchanged their views on how to organise various science popularisation programmes for motivating school children to pursue science in their latter life.

The Assam Science Congress Association which was established in 2000, has been organising science popularisation programmes like state-level science awareness fairs, district-level science exhibitions, students� science seminars, science writers� workshops, workshops cum seminars on research methodology etc., in different parts of Assam.
