Stress on conservation of petroleum products in agriculture

DIBRUGARH, July 22 - A daylong awareness programme on �Conservation of petroleum products in agriculture� was organised at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) here with the support of the Petroleum Conservation Research Association, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India, a press release stated.

Hemchandra Saikia, subject matter specialist and course director of the programme, told the participating farmers that effective steps should be taken to conserve energy and prevent the unnecessary loss of fuel for a better and sustainable future of mankind.

Speaking as the resource person, Neelakshi Baithuri, assistant executive engineer, Department of Agricultural Engineering, explained to the participants various ways to prevent fuel loss while using tractors, power tillers and pump sets in order to get enhanced fuel efficiency in agriculture.

Programme coordinator Dr HK Bhattacharyya urged the farmers to use all machinery and vehicles in agriculture according to the instruction manual. Dr Satish Bora, retired principal scientist of the Citrus Research Station, Tinsukia, of the Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat, also participated in the programme as a resource person and gave suggestions to the participating farmers to enhance production. Altogether 27 farmers from several villages of the district participated in the programme, the release added.
