By CITY CORRESPONDENT

GUWAHATI, Aug 28 - Diesel price today reached an all-time high of Rs 72.73 in Guwahati while petrol price touched Rs 80.32.

Rajiv Goswami, an official of the North East Petroleum Dealers Association (NEPDA), said, This year, the lowest petrol price was Rs 71.91 on February 1. On the same day, the lowest diesel price of the year also recorded Rs 62.26. Moreover, the highest petrol price of this year was Rs 80.57 on May 31, and on the same day the second highest diesel price was Rs 72.31.

Goswami said the fuel price hike was caused by the fall of rupee against the US dollar.

The oil market of India is mainly dependent on imported crude oil. As the value of rupee continues its fall against the US dollar, the fuel prices have also risen continuously.

So, it is time emphasis was given on alternative fuel like biofuel, electricity, wind power, etc. Or else, this problem will continue, he stated.
