GUWAHATI, Dec 9 Two storm systems over the Bay of Bengal have triggered slight rise in the maximum and minimum temperatures throughout the Brahmaputra Valley, leading to a warm winter so far this year in the Valley.

According to meteorologist Sunit Das of the Borjhar-based Regional Meteorology Centre (RMC) here, the minimum temperature in the city has been one degree Celsius above the normal since December 1. The maximum temperature in the city is also two to three degree Celsius above the normal in the city during the period.

The same phenomenon is prevalent over the entire Brahmaputra Valley, he said.

Das attributed this situation to the consecutive storms formed over the Bay of Bengal. While the first one was found lying over the West Central Bay of Bengal in the fourth week of the last month, the present one is lying over the South West Bay of Bengal during the present week, beginning since December 6, he said.

These two systems have supplied lower level moisture over the NE region, thus leading to a slight rise in both of its maximum and minimum temperatures. The situation is expected to continue for the next few days, he said.
