Storm ravages Mizoram

By Correspondent

AIZAWL, April 3 - More than 100 houses were damaged as pre-monsoon thunderstorm accompanied by heavy rains lashed several parts of Mizoram since Sunday morning.

At least 30 houses were damaged in Vairengte and neighbouring villages when a squall accompanied by hailstorm hit the northern part of the State around 5 am on Sunday. Some buildings in the campus of Counter Insurgency Jungle Warfare School at Vairengte were also damaged, official sources said.

Hailstorm accompanied by rains also lashed eastern parts with Chiahpui village in Champhai district being worst hit. At least 90 houses were damaged. The pre-monsoon rains have prevented many farmers from burning their jhum, forcing the government to extend the deadline for burning jhum till April 15.
