Storm lashes city

By Staff reporter

GUWAHATI, May 13 A powerful thunderstorm with wind speed exceeding 60 km per hour lashed the city this evening causing a lot of damage to private and public property. The storm also resulted in disruption of power supply in many parts of the city. The extent of the damage is yet to be ascertained.

Telephone connections in the city, particularly between the eastern and the western parts of the city, also were affected by the storm.

Assam State Electricity Board (ASEB) sources said that the west feeder of the Khanapara Electrical Sub-division has been affected by the storm. This feeder connects Kahilipara Power Station with the western part of the State. Works to restore the feeder is on at the time of filing of this report.

However, the Regional Meteorology Centre (RMC), which warned the possibility of the storm in its forecast today, remained incommunicable after the storm due to telephone network problems.
