DIBRUGARH, May 15 � A storm, accompanied by torrential rain last night, claimed four more lives in Doomdooma revenue circle of Tinsukia district and left several injured as the wind storm ravaged hundreds of houses in the area, uprooted trees and snapped electric poles.
Houses and several big trees were also destroyed in Tengakhat revenue circle in Dibrugarh district. Four persons have already died in storm related incident in Doomdooma area on April 23.
Ranjit Murah (29) and his son Boro (9) were killed in 1 No. Bagjan village when the roof of their house fell on them. They were found buried under the debris. One Puli Oraon was killed in Bongali Bosti while Bikash Lakra died in Gorjan village similarly. The storm hit places like Bagjan, Rangajan, Beesakopi, Tipuk, Dighaltarang, Atengia, Chelenguri and Nagaon, etc., the hardest.
The storm ravaged houses in almost all the villages in Telpani Bamunikuria Gaon Panchayat within Tengkhat circle. Parimal Barla and Alben Hasah sustained injuries when their respective houses collapsed while they were inside.
Torrential rain with violent wind continue to lash parts of Tinsukia, Dibrugarh and Sivasagar districts. Continuous rain has also caused water-logging in several parts of the district headquarters, small towns and even villages. Meanwhile power supply has been affected.
Tinsukia Correspondent adds: Meanwhile hundreds of affected people this morning blocked the NH-52 at Rupai-Dirak Road at Rongjan demanding adequate relief immediately. Deputy Commissioner SS Meenakshi Sundaram, who is inspecting the cyclone-hit areas personally, today arranged relief materials from Dibrugarh, Sivasagar, Jorhat and Guwahati. He also deployed police, health, army personnel etc., in rescue and relief operation in the cyclone hit areas.
Our Nalbari Correspondent adds: A hailstorm lashed the entire Ghograpar area in Nalbari district late last night. Eight villages, including Barajhol, Allia, Narayangaon, Kalakuchi, Barbari, Barsimalua, were badly affected in the storm. About a hundred houses and school buildings were damaged. Valuable trees were also uprooted in the high intensity storm. The entire areas plunged into darkness as a good number of electric poles were damaged too.
Our Bongaigaon Correspondent adds: A cyclone hit Bengtol area last night, uprooting trees and damaging houses and farms causing heavy economic damage.
