In the thunderstorm, many roadside trees were uprooted at Sagoli Ahot Tol area following which the NH-15 is now blocked and the vehicles plying on this road were stranded till the filing of this report. Moreover, at many places many electric posts were also damaged.

Our Barpeta Correspondent adds: Heavy rain accompanied by storm in some parts of the district this afternoon provided temporary relief to unbearable heat continuing for the last several days. But the storm caused some damage to the private and public properties.

According to information available, several trees were uprooted in the south and south west parts of the district. Notable among the losses is the breaking of the centuries-old Kelikadam tree in the Barpeta Satra campus. This tree which had suffered from attack of pests for the last few years and had become weak, could not withstand the strong winds and eventually fell down. Power cables were also damaged in some parts of the district disrupting supply of electricity which has already become irregular. People here are apprehensive about the probable time of restoration of the supply and lamented that though rain has given relief, its outcome may compel them to suffer more.
