TURA, Nov 2 - An illegal stone crusher unit operating in the plains belt of West Garo Hills district was shut down today. The machines and materials were also confiscated after the owner refused to shut the unit despite warnings from the Forest Department.
IFS officer on probation, Sathish KS, led the raid on the stone crusher unit, conducted by the Forest staff from Hollaidanga Beat and police personnel from Phulbari and Rajabala.
A total of three stone crusher units, which had been operating without valid documents or NOCs, had earlier been asked to shut down. While two units stopped operations, the third one continued to function despite the warning from the authorities concerned.
