SILCHAR, Aug 21 - Demanding inclusion of Manipuri language as one of the associate official languages in Assam, members of Manipuri Youth of Assam along with Assam Manipuri Meira Paibi Lup, All Assam Manipuri Muslim Youth Front and a host of other bodies staged a sit-in at Motinagar auto stand in Sonai town area of Cachar district on Friday.
Later, the associations submitted a joint memorandum to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal through the Circle Officer Sonai echoing the demands for inclusion of Manipuri language as one of the associate official languages, Manipuri as a language in the list of languages for Qualifying paper (paper-A) along with Assamese, Bengali and Bodo in the Combined Competitive Examination (CCE) Mains examination of Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) examination, inclusion of Manipuri language in Assam so that candidates appearing for jobs in Central or State Government posts should be equipped with adequate knowledge of the subject and inclusion of Manipuri literature as an optional subject in the CCE Mains examination of APSC examination. The associations also sent a copy of the memorandum to Minister of Education Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma drawing his attention on their demands.
Further, the associations have expressed disappointment regarding candidates belonging to Manipuri language medium from appearing in the CCE conducted by the APSC under the Assam Public Services Competitive Examination (Amendment) Rules, 2019, which they termed as a discrimination.
