Stir threat over city bus fare hike

GUWAHATI, July 26 � Protesting the �initiatives� taken by the State government and its department concerned towards increasing the fares of city buses and other commercial vehicles, the All Guwahati Students� Union (AGSU) today met the Deputy Commissioner Kamrup (Metro) and Commissioner of the State Transport Department. In a statement, the AGSU alleged that the State government has already started the process to increase the commercial vehicles� fares. �The unabated price rise of essential commodities has already hit the common people vary hard. If the city bus fares are further increased it would be difficult for the poor people to travel in city buses and trekkers. The government cannot ignore the problem faced by the common people. Specially, senior citizens and students travelling through the city buses would also be affected if the bus fares are increased,� the statement mentioned.

The statement further added that if the fares of commercial vehicles are increased by the government, the students� body would launch a movement against it.
