Stir threat by Disabled Persons Association

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Dec 3 - The All Assam Disabled Persons Association has warned the State government of an intensified agitation unless the government ensures appointment of educated disabled youths in various departments.

In a statement, the association said that following a long-standing demand by it, the State government had on December 14, 2014, taken a Cabinet decision to appoint educated disabled youths in 3,800 posts in different departments and the process for identification of the candidates against the departments concerned had been completed.

But strangely the government, for reasons best known to it, has not yet started the appointment process. We demand that the government start the appointment process by December 7, failing which we will be compelled to launch a vigorous stir, the association said in a memorandum to Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi.

The other demands of the association include formation of a separate directorate for the disabled, facilitation of easy loans to the disabled by the National Disabled Finance and Development Corporation, reservation of seats in the proposed Upper House of the Assam Assembly, construction of a guest house for the disabled in the city, provincialisation of schools for the disabled, setting up of skill development centres for the disabled, etc.
