ITANAGAR, March 3 � Opposing the construction of Stage I and II Mega dams by NHPC and NEEPCO over the Siang river, the Siang Indigenous Farmers� Forum (SIFF) today threatened to launch an agitation if the projects are not scrapped immediately.
These dams are estimated to produce 6,000 MW and 3,750 MW respectively but would inundate a massive area in Siang belt, SIFF president Tasik Pangkam said. Moreover, the consent of the affected land owners was not taken before MoUs were signed, Pangkam added.
Several associations like Siang People�s Forum, Nyiko Banggo, Siang Mebo Bachao Committee have come forward in support of the agitation. � PTI
