By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, June 29 The Joint Council of Trade Unions (JCTU), Assam staged a demonstration today in protest against the recent hike in prices of diesel, LPG and kerosene.

Workers assembled in front of the Judges Field and marched towards the office of the DC Kamrup (Metro) and staged a demonstration there. A memorandum was submitted to the Prime Minister through the DC demanding immediate withdrawal of the hike in prices of diesel, kerosene, LPG and petrol.

Earlier addressing the demonstrators, Satanjib Das, joint convenor of JCTU, Assam lambasted the UPA government for its anti-people economic policies. He termed as deceptive the arguments put forward by the government in justification of the price hike of petro products and pointed out that the government has resorted to this step only in the interest of big business houses, particularly the private sector oil companies, both indigenous and foreign. He called upon the workers to come together and protest such anti- people policies.

Meanwhile, Consumers Legal Protection Forum has protested the Government decision to hike the prices of petroleum products.
