TINSUKIA, May 21 � Alleging rampant corruption by the Divisional Forest Officer of the Digboi Forest Division, which has resulted in wanton destruction of the forest cover, activists of district committee of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) staged a protest programme and burnt the effigies of the Forest Minister, Atuwa Munda and Divisional Forest Officer, Digboi, Ranjan Kumar Das in front of their office at the GNB Road here today. Protesters alleged that the present DFO was fully responsible for the mass destruction of forest cover under his jurisdiction including Upper Dehing Wild Life Sanctuary. The Forest Minister too had not taken any step to check the illegal trade of forest properties in the division even after he had been informed about it on several occasions. Protesters further warned that if the situation remains the same they would take up more vigorous protest programmes in the near future.
