GUWAHATI, March 27 The All Dhemaji District Students Union (ADDSU) has threatened demonstrations in front of the offices of the Border Road Organisation (BRO) in Dhemaji district in protest against the failure of the road construction organisation to complete the repairs of the national highway for the past 11 years.
In a statement here today, the ADDSU said that the demonstration would also be held in front of the office of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Dhemaji and the effigy of the BRO would be burnt there in protest against the organisations failure to fulfill its commitment.
The students body has alleged involvement of some of the BRO officials in the illegal sale of road construction materials. The BRO was awarded the NH-52 repair contract 1999 with the deadline for completing the work within ten years time.
But now, the condition of this highway has become worse in several parts and its users virtually invite risk to their life, particularly between Jiadhol and Bordoloni Chariali. The BRO is turning a blind eye to this, alleged the students body.
Vehicles using this highway in this part have to ply through the roadside paddy fields. During the rainy days, movement of vehicles on the highway comes to a grinding halt, alleged the students body.
