Steps to check erosion at Dharapur

By Correspondent

AZARA, Sept 2 The Guwahati-East E&D division under the Water Resources Department has undertaken some anti-erosion steps at Dharapur under Azara revenue circle in Kamrup (M) District. The E & D authority has adopted measures to check the erosion of the Brahmaputra river by piling bamboo-porcupine and depositing earth-filled bags in breached portions of the Dharapur-Mazirgaon dyke at Jangabari and Dharapur (Dhoportal). However, the local people have expressed deep concern over such type of temporary anti-erosion measures. They have urged the authority concerned to protect the dyke from erosion with scientific and permanent measures.

It may be noted here that massive erosion occurred in several portions of the 1500-metre-long Dharapur-Mazirgaon dyke just one month back.
