AGARTALA, Oct 17 - Amid the sluggish economic activities due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb today said that the his Government has taken several steps to make the State self-independent.
�Steps have been taken to provide sufficient employment opportunities to people. The existing norms have been simplified so that the people can avail of the benefits of various government schemes,� the Chief Minister said while addressing an awareness programme on the Mukhyamantri Swanirbhar Yojana at Khayerpur in West Tripura district.
Deb said small traders used to face problems while applying for trade licences, but now the entire process has been simplified for the benefit of small shopkeepers and street vendors. Now small traders and street vendors are getting loans to become self-reliant, he maintained.
The Chief Minister alleged that the previous Left Government did not take any steps to provide profitable avenues to small traders. �The present Government will get the small businessmen insured. The first premium of the insurance will be paid by the Government,� he said.
Deb said his Government has also been working to make the young generation self-independent. The Chief Minister further said that Tripura would prosper if the young generation became self-independent. �A Special Economic Zone is coming up in Sabroom subdivision. Besides, an integrated check post and logistics hub are in the pipeline. We believe that Sabroom, a small town of South Tripura district, will become a gateway to South East Asia for the entire North East. It will create job opportunities for the youths,� Deb said.
The Tripura Chief Minister also highlighted the better Indo-Bangladesh ties, which would usher in massive economic growth in the border State. �Connectivity is going to be better. As a border State, Tripura will benefit due to the cordial relations between India and Bangladesh,� he added.
Local MLA Ratan Chakraborty also spoke on the occasion.
