Steps taken to check fish prices

By STAFF Reporter

GUWAHATI, June 28 In view of fish prices skyrocketing in Guwahati, the Kamrup Metro district administration has announced corrective steps for sale of good quality of fish at reasonable prices to customers.

In a press release, the district administration said Kamrup Metro DC Ashutosh Agnihotri had earlier directed Fishfed to set up new sale booths for sale of fish at reasonable prices and to monitor the fish prices in the market.

In response, Fishfed has been taking new initiatives including inauguration of three new booths in Guwahati for sale of good quality fish at reasonable price, bringing the total to six sale booths in addition to a mobile sale booth through autovan, it said.

It added that the sale booths are located at Rupnagar (Harabala Path), Dispur (Wireless), Maligaon (in front of railway headquarters), Panbazar (near Don Bosco High School) and Chandmari (near All India Radio Station). The mobile van is selling fish in the Chandmari and New Guwahati areas.

The response from public in these booths has been encouraging. In the near future the mobile van will cover other areas of the city. After analyzing the demand for fish in other areas, new booths may be opened in view of enthusiastic public response, it said.

It added that Fishfed prices the product at not more than 25 per cent of wholesale rates, to keep them reasonable.

The district administration requests all the consumers to report matter immediately if the fish prices in open market are higher than Fishfed prices, the statement added.
