DIBRUGARH, July 14 - Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today unveiled statues of Simon Singh Horo and Santosh Kumar Topno, the founder president and general secretary respectively of Assam Chotanagpur Chatra Sanmilan (ACCS), the maiden organization of the State�s tea garden working communities formed on December 28, 1947, which later was renamed as Assam Tea Tribes Students� Association (ATTSA).
The two pioneer leaders from the tea garden working communities gave birth to ACCS with objectives to bring all the tea and ex-tea community students under a common platform, inculcate socio-economic consciousness among them in a bid to eradicate various social prejudices prevailing within the community, promote culture and bring about all-round development for the community. In due course of time, the organization was named ATTSA.
The statues erected at the campus of the Tea Tribes Cultural Centre, Chaulkhowa was unveiled by the Chief Minister in the presence of Union Minister of State for Food Processing Industries Rameshwar Teli, Tea Tribes Welfare Minister Sanjay Kishan, MP Pallab Lochan Das, MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, and Lahoal MLA Rituparna Baruah.
The unveiling ceremony was followed by a meeting at the venue where local leaders of Assam Tea Tribes Students� Association (ATTSA) and other leaders from the tea garden working communities took part. Prominent leaders present at the meeting included Dhiraj Guwalla, president, ATTSA, Pavan Bediya, general secretary, ATTSA and Deben Oraon, general secretary, All Adivasi Students� Association of Assam.
