GAURIPUR, Sept 30 � Under the aegis of Gauripur branch Lekhika Samaroh Samiti, a life size statue of Kanaklata Barua, the famous martyr of the 1942 movement for independence was unveiled on September 24 on the occasion of Jatiya Chetana Divas at the premises of Gauripur Children�s Park.
The meeting held on the occasion was presided over by Anjali Brahma, president of the unit. The objectives of the meeting was explained by Manita Barua, secretary of the branch.
A few speakers including Anjali Goswami, Ambu Nath Sharma, Dhirendra Nath Adhikary, Dipika Das Sarkar addressed the meeting and spoke about the history of the movement for independence and appealed to the house to follow the the great ideals of the martyrs like Kanaklata, Mukunda Kakati and others.
Poet Kashema Khatun offered the vote of thanks. Prizes were also distributed among the winners of various competitions held to mark the occasion.
