Statue of Bir Raghav Moran installed

TINSUKIA, Dec 31 � A life-size statue of legendry Moran hero Raghav Moran, who defeated Ahom King Lakshmi Singha several times in the 18th Century and had taken the Moran ethic group to a new height, has been installed at Tinsukia Anchalik Moran Chatra Santha office of the All Moran Chatra Santha at Gelapukhuri here today amidst traditional religious rites and functions by the heads of different organizations, namely Arunjyoti Moran, president of All Assam Moran Students' Union, Diteswer Moran of Sodou Moran Sabha, Jinu Baruah, president of Sodou Moran Jatiya Parishad, Tarun Baruah of Sodou Moran Sahitya Sabha and Sukhidar Dohotia, president of Sodou Moran Kala Sangskriti Bikash Kendra of Moran community.

Prior to the unveiling function, a religious procession with gaayon and baayon and a number of cultural troops was taken out from the Juria Namghar of Boroguri through the main streets of the town.

The meeting held on the occasion was presided over by Jyotimoni Moran, advisor to the AAMSU. The unveiling function was also attended by former Union Minister Paban Singh Ghatwar, MLAs of Sadiya, Doomdooma and Chabua, Bolin Chetia, Dilip Moran and Raju Sahu, respectively besides other dignitaries. A souvenir published to mark the occasion was released by writer Rumi Lahkar Bora.
