Nalbari, Feb 23 : A life-size statue of Jivan Silpi Guruji Adya Sarma was unveiled at the Guruji Adya Sarma park in Nalbari town on the occasion of his sixth death anniversary on Monday.
The 11 feet-tall statue was constructed by sculptor Manjit Kalita, a student of late Adya Sarma. The statue was unveiled by Ashok Sarma, MLA of Nalbari LAC.
In his speech, Sarma recalled the artistic talent and his contributions to the field of art in the State. The MLA donated the expenditure of the entire statue from his pocket.
The inaugural meeting presided over by Mukul Goswami, vice president of Nalbari Art School, Krishna Roy of Awahan Theatre and Dr Umesh Chakravarty, a leader of RSS . The meeting was conducted by Dhrubajyoti Sarma and Dr Sailendra Prasad Sarma .
Earlier, the Jivan Silpi Adya Sarma award for 2021 was presented to puppetry artist Gokul Ch Talukdar of Bahjani area in Nalbari district.The award consisted of a cash award of Rs 10,000,a memento, a citation, a sarai, cheleng sadar, phulam japi, gamocha among others.
