JALUKBARI, Jan 3 - A statistical laboratory was inaugurated in the Department of Statistics, GU yesterday. It has been funded by the Arun Borthakur Endowment, which has been set up in the department and sponsored by the family of Late Professor Arun Chandra Borthakur. Late Prof Borthakur was a former head of the Dept of Statistics and a faculty member from 1965 to 1999.
The inaugural programme was attended by Dr Mridul Hazarika, Vice Chancellor GU. In his inaugural speech, he stressed the importance of the concept of �Gauhati University family� and opined that if the concept of this family is appreciated by one and all, no one can stop the university on its onward march to attain greater heights.
Minakshi Borthakur, wife of Late Prof Borthakur, reminisced about the deep love and sense of attachment her husband had for the department and thanked it for wholeheartedly extending cooperation in implementing the schemes of the endowment.
Dr Suresh Kr Nath, Registrar, said a good beginning has been made and exhorted all concerned to see to it that work of the endowment is carried forward with full vigour. Others who spoke the occasion included Prof Amit Choudhury, Prof Labananda Choudhury and Prof Jogen Kalita.
