State�s 33 lakh farmers to get financial aid: Minister

NALBARI, April 21 - State Minister of Agriculture Atul Bora said the agriculture sector in Assam has been adversely affected due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Addressing a press conference at the Nalbari deputy commissioner�s office last evening, Bora said in order to give temporary relief to the farmers in the state, the Central government will provide Rs 6,000 to each of the 27 lakh farmers under the Prime Minister�s Kisan Sanman Nidhi.

At the same time, the state government under the chief minister�s special scheme will provide a cash benefit of Rs 2,500 to each of the six lakh farmers.

The minister further said to compensate the loss, the agriculture department has chalked out a massive plan to set up kitchen gardens in the state.

Bora called upon the people to change their mindset towards the COVID-19 pandemic.

He earlier reviewed the situation in the district with the deputy commissioner and high officials.
