�Statement 2020� likely to be adopted

NEW DELHI, Dec 18 ��ASEAN-India Vision Statement 2020� is likely to be adopted at the ensuing ASEAN-India Commemorative Summit that gets underway here on Thursday, as the stage is all set to roll out the red carpets to welcome the 10 heads of states, who are participating in the Summit.

The Vision Document 2020, which is expected to draw a significant portion from the Eminent Persons� Report, which was accepted by the heads of states in Cambodia. The Vision Document would chart the future direction of ASEAN-India relations.

To mark the 20th anniversary of the ASEAN-India dialogue partnership and the 10th anniversary of ASEAN-India Summit-level partnership, India is hosting the ASEAN-India Commemorative Summit on December 20-21. The theme of the summit is �ASEAN-India Partnership for Peace and Shared Prosperity�.

The Summit is expected to result in the adoption of the Vision Document. This would also include recommendations by the ASEAN-India Eminent Persons Group (AIEPG), said the official spokesman of the Ministry of External Affairs, Syed Akbaruddin.

Enhancing relations with ASEAN has been central to India�s �Look East Policy� and there has been steady progress in the ASEAN-India relations since the policy was initiated in 1991. India became a sectoral dialogue partner of ASEAN in 1992, which was upgraded to full dialogue partnership in 1996. Since 2002, we have had annual summits with ASEAN,� said the spokesman.
