GUWAHATI, Feb 9 - The Assam Tourism department in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, organised a roadshow at Aloft the Mariott Bengaluru, the centre of India�s high-tech industry on Friday.
The roadshow had witnessed business interaction between tourism operators from Assam and the tour operators, hoteliers and stakeholders from Karnataka and its neighbouring states. The same roadshow was held recently in Chennai and Hyderabad.
The Assam delegation was led by ATDC chairman Jayanta Malla Baruah, ATDC vice-chairman Navadeep Kalita, secretary Razvee Hussain, joint secretary Cauvery B Sarmah, director of tourism Deba Kumar Mishra, deputy director of tourism Moitreyee Das and Bidyarnav Bora among others.
A cultural troupe showcasing different forms of dances of Assam, like Tiwa, Bagurumba, Jhumur and the foot-tapping Bihu dance, left the crowd enthralled. The troupe was led by Gayatri Mahanta. The team included Rishnamoni Hazarika, Madhusmita Dihingia, Romila Boro, Bharat Hazarika, Manashjyoti Rajbongshi and Biplab Gogoi.
Delivering the welcome address, Jayanta Malla Baruah encouraged the gathering to visit Assam and spoke about the beauty bestowed by Mother Nature to the State. He further informed that Assam has been chosen for the first time to host the 65th Filmfare Awards scheduled to be held on February 15 and called upon the audience to visit and also send tourists to Assam.
Director of Tourism Deba Kumar Mishra spoke about the natural and cultural beauty of Assam by giving a PowerPoint presentation. He stated that tourists prefer unique destinations and Assam can offer such uniqueness, like the Tree House at Abhyapuri or the Singpho Eco Resort near Margherita or the occult way of life in Mayong.
It may be mentioned here that the State Tourism department has started taking effective strategies to promote tourism in the State by blogging. Rupjyoti Gogoi, an eminent fashion blogger from Chennai, was also present in the roadshow.
Arijit Purkayastha on behalf of the tour operators of Assam gave an overview of the products of the State and invited all the stakeholders of Karnataka to have first-hand knowledge of Assam by visiting the State.
Somnath Mukherjee, Taj area director for Karnataka, Manoj Babu, secretary-general, Kerala Hotel Association, Radha Krishna Holla, president, Karnataka State Travel Owners� Association were also present in the roadshow.
Assam tourism secretary Razvee Hussain enraptured the audience by holding a quiz on tourism in the State. Four awards were given away to the winners to visit different destinations of the State, like Manas, Kaziranga, Bhalukpung. The awards were sponsored by Abhisarika Holidays, Iora Resort, Meenakshi Tours and Travels and Assam Tours and Travels.
The team will proceed to Goa for its final roadshow scheduled to be held on February 9 at Hotel Fidalgo in Panaji.
