State to observe Abhiruchi Sports Day

GUWAHATI, Sept 1 � The 27th edition of the Abhiruchi Sports Day, which is organised to celebrate the birthday of Arjuna Award winner Bhugeswar Baruah, will be organised on September 3 all over the State.

Giving details about the day, organising chairman Balendra Mohan Chakravorty said in a crowded press conference here today that in the central function a mass jogging will be organised from Chandmari flyover to the RG Baruah Sports Complex. They are expecting children from 80 schools of the city to participate in the jogging which will be flagged off by State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The mass jogging will be known as the Airtel Mass Jogging which will start at 6.30 am and will be led by another Arjuna award winner Monalisa Baruah Mehta.

After the mass jogging, a group dance competition will be conducted among the school children. The organisers will also honour sportspersons of the State on the occasion who have represented the country last year.

Altogether 30 sportspersons and five organisers will be felicitated during the day-long function.

Airtel official Tridip Sarma spoke of the company�s association with sports in the State and said that they are happy to be reach out to large number of school children.

Assam State Aids Control Society�s official Rakhi Chakravorty said they have been providing assistance in organising the Abhiruchi Sports Day as through this event they try to make people aware about AIDS.

Balendra Mohan Chakravorty said organisations like OIL, ONGC, NRL, Coca Cola and many others are extending financial assistance to organise the Sports Day in a grand manner.
