State to implement Food Security Act

GUWAHATI, July 14 � The State will implement the ambitious National Food Security Act (NFSA) from September 1 next. According to an official press release here, at a meeting, the Chief Minister asked the officials to start implementing the NFSA across the State from September 1 this year. The senior officials of the Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department, the nodal department for implementing NFSA, apprised the Chief Minister about the slew of measures taken for implementation of the scheme. Gogoi exhorted upon the officials for smooth implementation of the scheme and to ensure that it reaches the beneficiaries for whom they are meant.

The Chief Minister further directed the officials to ensure sufficient quantity of commodities in the Amar Dokan and to take concrete and effective steps to prevent hoarding and black-marketing of necessary articles and keep a steady supply line so as to maintain

balance between demand and supply of necessary articles.

The meeting decided to bring onions and potatoes in the essential commodities list to curb hoarding. �The step will help to undertake de-hoarding operations and to control the prices of onions and potatoes,� he said.

The Chief Minister directed the officials to send information on regular stock and prices of essential items, including onions and potatoes, to the media on a daily basis so that the consumers remain abreast of the supply position of these items.
