State to buy more power at higher price

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Sept 29 The Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd (APDCL) is going to purchase additional 100 MW of power from the spot market at even higher prices to bridge the gap between demand and supply of power.

The APRCL has also stated in a statement here that it is expecting an additional 100 MW of power from the Central Sector Generating Stations to ease out from the tight power situation. Explaining the situation, the APDCL said in the statement that it has been purchasing around 150 MW of power regularly at the peak hours from the spot market on day ahead basis with a higher price to mitigate the energy shortfall.

But it could not purchase additional power from the spot market on September 28 and 29 on account of sudden three-fold hike in power price. The rise in power price was caused by the overall shortage at the national level, reportedly due to strike in some of the coal mines.
