State teachers� body to launch agitation

GUWAHATI, Jan 18 � Irked at the State Government�s attitude towards their demand for amending the Assam Venture Educational Institutions (Provincialization of Services)�Act in favour of the majority of teachers and school staff of the venture schools established before 2006, the Asom Sikshak Karmachari Aikya Mancha has decided to re-launch its movement throughout the State.

At a general meeting of the organization held at Beltola High School premises today, the members discussed in detail the issues and challenges of the venture educational institutions and the future of the teachers and staff working therein.

The Mancha members would lock out their respective educational institutions on January 26. This activity would have a State-wide impact. Another series of agitation would be launched at Dispur Last Gate from February 2.

�The teachers and workers of venture educational institutions are hurt by the government�s indifferent attitude toward our problems, and our demands for our rights are falling into deaf ears,� said the Mancha in a press statement.

It may be mentioned here that the Mancha has led as many as 54 movements in Guwahati and other parts of the State for provincializing the venture schools and regularizing the services of the staff of such educational institutions. After the Assam Venture Educational Institutions (Provincialization of Services)�Act 2011 came into being, 12 protest movements were organized by the Mancha seeking amendments to the Act.

All district committees of the Mancha would be reconstituted on January 31 and a central convention of the Mancha would be held in Guwahati on February 1.
