State taxation officers stage demonstration

By The Assam Tribune

GUWAHATI, Oct 17 - Members of the Assam Taxation Officers Association, Association of Inspectors of Taxes, Assam and All Assam Taxation Ministerial Officers Association, affiliated to the All India Confederation of Commercial Taxes Associations (AICCTA) held a sit-in demonstration today in front of the office of the Commissioner of Taxes, Kar Bhawan at Dispur.

Todays programme coincided with the demonstrations at the Jantar Mantar, New Delhi by the AICCTA and seven members from the tax associations of Assam.

The demonstrators demanded that the GST Council withdraw its discriminatory policy towards the State tax administration vis-a-vis the Central tax administration, particularly in matters relating to the IGST, which was earlier administered by the State tax administration.

The demonstrators unequivocally demanded equal pay for equal work under the GST regime. They also demanded that the State administration should take into account the submission of the tax officers and employees associations while finalising the cadre structure and the pay structure in the new tax regime.

They spoke strongly in favour of reconsidering the decision of the GST Council to retain jurisdiction over service tax payers by the Central tax administration and demanded that the State tax administration should have equal jurisdiction over the service tax assessees.
