JORHAT, Aug 31 - The sixth Jorhat All Assam Swimming Championship got off at the Jorhat Swimming Society pool here today.
On the opening day Jorhat leading the medal tally with 10 gold, 9 silver and 9 bronze while Sivasagar at the second spot claiming 9 gold, 5 silver and 6 bronze medals. Titabor won 1 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze while Golaghat swimmers pocketed 1 gold, 2 silver and 5 bronze medals. Other medal winning districts are-Tezpur (1 gold, 2 silver, 1 bronze), Charaideo (2 silver, 1 bronze), Kamrup (1 gold).
Sanskar Bhuyan, Angshuman Kashyap, Subhanshini Priyadarshini, Arista Saikia, Krishanali Doley, Ayusha Bora, Nibir Hazarika, Subashana Kashyap, Riyashri Das were felicitated with cash awards for winning medals in national championships.
ONGC Basin Manager Firoz Datiwal inaugurated the championship in the opening ceremony where MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, sports organizer Raktim Saikia, Basin Manager Punit Sorie, District Development Commissioner Gitanjali Dutta among others were present.
