State sports budget enhanced

GUWAHATI, March 15 � The State Government has allocated Rs 66.03 crore for sports in its budget for the year 2010-2011 which was presented in the State Assembly by the Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi who also holds the Finance portfolio, today.

The amount is almost double in comparison to the allocation in the last financial year. The budgertary allocation for the year 2009-2010 was Rs 31.40 crore. The new budget include Rs 18.85 in plan, Rs 39.20 in non plan and Rs 7.98 in other heads.

An initial amount of Rs 2 crore has been provided for setting up Sports Authority of Assam for proper management of infrastructure set up during the 2007 National Games, a sports-cum-cultural complex, in the name of Bir Chilarai, will be constructed and amount of Rs 10 crore has been provided to benefit 12600 sports clubs.
