State shooting championship from tomorrow

GUWAHATI, Sept 10 � Assam Rifle and Shooting Association (ARSA) has completed all arrangements to hold the 8th All Assam Shooting Championship at its 4th AP Bn, Kahilipara range from September 12.

Giving details about the meet, ARSA president Pallab Bhattacharyya and secretary Bhaba Kalita said in a press conference today that they are expecting around 100 shooters from all over the State. Altogether seven events will be conducted during the three-day meet. The events to be conducted are � 10 m rifle and pistol (men and woman), 50 m prone (man and woman), 50 m 3 position (man and woman), 50 m 3 pistol (man), 25 m sports pistol (woman), 25 m centre fire (man) 25 m standard pistol (man).

Bhattacharyya revealed that to make the sport more popular and find out new talent they are planning to start training programmes in various schools. They are also planning to set up a hostel for shooters in the State.

The ARSA officials further said that to create awareness for this sport, they are urging people who have arms with legal documents to practice and ARSA may host a tournament for such people.
