GUWAHATI, Oct 3 The State has pleaded for 120 MW of free power from the under construction 2000-MW Lower Subansiri Hydroelectric Power Project (LSHEP) as its free share, said Power Minister Pradyut Bordoloi. He was speaking to this newspaper.

The State, in its recent memorandum to the Union Power Minister, argued that since it would have to bear the brunt of the downstream impact of the LSHEP, its share of free power should be enhanced to 6 per cent against the present arrangement of only 25 MW.

The State has also argued for allocation of 600 MW of power to it from the project at the cost of production.

It needs mention here that the Central Electricity Authority (CEA), the highest body for power sector planning in the country, has allocated 208 MW of power to Assam from the LSHEP as the quantum of unallocated power that is the quantity of power the State can buy from the project.

Thus, against the present arrangement of total 233 MW of power to it from the LSHEP, the State has pleaded for 720 MW of power.
